bsd updating usrsrc-12

Programs compiled to run on Free BSD 10.0-RELEASE, or 10.1-RELEASE, or 10.2-RELEASE will continue to work on Free BSD 10-STABLE.

-STABLE means that while code can change, the ABI (Application Binary Interface) will remain stable and not change.

Based on my experiences with PC-BSD 1.0RC1 through 7.1, Free BSD 6.0-8.0, and the times I've spent on support detail with less seasoned users - I find the best policy is generally to advise people not to mix source updates and PC-BSDs update manager, unless it is a critical need (real threat) or you know what you're doing.

Just last night I tried to install/upgrade a libjpg type dependancy using ports and that seemed to break a few things (Opera, okular etc.) which depend on a certain PC-BSD installed version of the lib. In my experience, do not update the packages that came with PCBSD.

Hello list, well, I have read many posts, but mostly about old versions of PCBSD.
